Resolution for Katie Meyer

Justice Law Collaborative is proud to have represented the family of Katie Meyer in their wrongful death case against Stanford University.

Last week’s resolution marks an important step toward meaningful change and honoring Katie’s legacy. As part of the resolution, Stanford committed to adopting the principles of Katie Meyer’s Law, creating a leadership award in Katie’s name, retiring her jersey, and launching new initiatives focused on student-athlete mental health and well-being.

From the beginning, this case was about more than a lawsuit for the Meyers and our legal team. It was about more than one institution or one tragedy. It was about ensuring changes and protections are put in place for students to avoid another unnecessary family tragedy. Beyond the courtroom, our work alongside the Meyer family through assisting them in starting their foundation, Katie’s Save, has helped raise awareness and educate people nationwide in so many ways, including in a recent ESPN60 Documentary, Save: the Katie Meyer Story.

Katie’s Save foundation has also served to help drive legislative change in California in Katie’s name, to provide more support mechanisms to students dealing with challenges. Katie’s Save foundation continues to fuel efforts to expand these protections nationwide, and we will remain standing side by side with the Meyers to advocate to have the Katie Meyer’s Law passed federally. No student should ever face challenges alone, without guidance, advocacy, support or awareness of the impacts such challenges have on student mental health, not just in California, but everywhere.

We have had the privilege to represent, advocate and raise awareness with the Meyer family and remain committed to ensuring that Katie’s legacy continues to lead to lasting protections for students everywhere.
